To assist in setting up the detector parameters, SPECT3D generates a 3-D rendering of the plasma grid and the viewing region of the detector. This allows users to easily verify that the detector is oriented properly for the SPECT3D simulation, and its viewing volume passes through the plasma as desired.
The Detector-Target Viewer is available for calculations utilizing hydro output files with any plasma geometry: 1-D (planar, cylindrical, or spherical geometries; 2-D Cartesian and cylindrical r-z geometries; or 3-D Cartesian geometry).
To view the viewer, select the menu item Display
| Detector-Target Orientation, click on the Show Detector-Target Viewer toolbutton (), or click on the View button in the Detector Setup widget.
On the left side of the viewer, select the simulation time and Variable (i.e., the physical quantity) for which the hydro data are to be displayed.
At the bottom, the Hydro Data Plot Objects are specified. For the hydro data, both contour slices and isosurfaces can be displayed.
For contour slices, the contour slice can be set up using either the hydro grid coordinate system, or the coordinate system of one of the detectors. The unit normal for the contour slice plane can either be one coordinate system axes or a custom unit normal vector, and the Value refers to the distance along an axis from the origin (in hydro grid units, see Plasma tab).
For isosurfaces, Value reference to the value of the selected Variable.
The assist in setting up, the axes of either the hydro grid or one of the detectors can be displayed using the Show Axes toolbutton (). The color coding is: red: x-axis; green: y-axis; blue: z-axis.
The Detector Components list organizes the components (e.g., viewing volume, backlighter, x-ray scattering source) under each detector. Each component's visibility and color can be edited by right-clicking on the component, and selecting from the popup menu.
After updating parameters, click the Update Graphics button (located near the bottom) to update the view.
The image below shows a sample problem with a spherical 1-D hydro grid. The envelope bounding the detector lines-of-sight through the plasma is shown in semi-transparent cyan.
The view can be manipulated using the tool buttons at the top of the window. The tool buttons (tool tips are provided) support zooming, rotation, translation, showing data, and resetting the view.
The exact position of the View (i.e., "viewer eyes") and Scene can be specified using the Set Viewing Position button (). Two options are available for setting the View and Scene positions: (1) setting specific coordinates for the View and Scene positions (left), and (2) setting the viewing parameters relative to a Detector Component (right).
Note that when setting the viewing position with either of these options, the mouse-driven translation and rotation parameters are reset to zero.
For a Spherical Crystal Model configuration, the Detector-Target Viewer also shows the reflecting mirror and the position of the backlighter source (see image below). A finite size backlighter sits on the Rowland circle (green circle). Lines-of-sight from the backlighter pass through the plasma, reflect off the spherical crystal, and then hit the detector.
Groups of lines-of-sight corresponding to the detector center, sides, and corners can be displayed by checking the boxes in the Lines of Sight box.
